Octocon is a weekend of celebrating and sharing our favourite stories from books, comics, TV, films, and games with a focus of science fiction and fantasy literature and all genre intersections within and sometimes without. We are the longest running science fiction and fantasy literature convention in Ireland.

The Octocon Fandom community is curious, passionate and has many faceted online and in person communities that extend beyond our yearly weekend. We aim to foster an environment of acceptance, inclusivity and diversity  including people of all ethnicities, all genders, all level of experience, all religious beliefs and all sexual orientations. This year we are honoured to be running in conjunction with Dublin UNESCO!

Octocon 2020 and 2021 were both held online due to Covid – 19. We are scheduled to return to a Hybrid In Person/Online event on the 15th and 16th of October at Croke Park. We expect to have up to 450 people coming from over 10 countries and all over Ireland to participate at the In-Person part of Octocon 2022 and an even wider reach for our online content (30 countries in 2020 and 43 in 2021).

We do our best every year to keep the running costs of the National Science Fiction Convention low and to run an as inclusive convention as possible. For this we need sponsorship. Sponsorship helps us create a warm and inviting space to explore not just stories, but STEM topics, identity, ethics, history, and community engagement across all ages. Sponsorship also allows us the opportunity to have a concession rate and be as inclusive as possible. Sponsorship allows us to continue as an amazing piece of modern Irish tradition.

Us too! Mostly the plans. It is our dream to make Octocon happen every year. It takes so much prep work done by many, MANY unsung volunteers in multiple countries to make Octocon happen. Everything from writing policies, accounting, identity ribbons, making sure there are food options for our guests regardless of personal needs, website development, accessibility accommodations, sponsorship procurement (Waves from an Octocon themed dimension) and so much more.

You can’t even help it, we understand. There is something about going to a shared space with other humans who share the same love as you. These past two years have had many challenges for many people and we are excited to return to an in person event style. This tier helps our community stay together in the new Hybrid format because not all adventures require leaving home and not all adventurers can. 

This tier of sponsorship goes towards facilitating and producing online content for our participants that still cannot attend, be it for health, economic, or distance reasons.  It additionally helps create free accessible online content on our YouTube channel.

The Curious Octopus – €250 

The Common European Octopus (Octopus Vulgaris) is Ireland’s only native octopus.

This tiny fact is but one of many that will be found in and out of stories spread all through Octocon.  We strive to help create an event that appeals across many demographics including age. 

This sponsorship tier helps us bring hands-on workshops and experiences to Octocon. From handcrafts to demonstrations to scavenger hunts! Activities for individual, team, and family engagement. This tier really helps us bring extra content for everyone to enjoy the convention in a way that suits them best.
