Do you want to build a cosplay? It doesn’t have to be a cosplay. Wait…what even is considered cosplay? Are you worried that you don’t know where to start or that you won’t get your character or style right? No matter your experience level as player or fan, as purist or bounder, come listen to our panel of Irish cosplayers as they share their stories as well as tips and tricks to help you get your look and your costume ready for Octocon 2022!

Apollo Pierce

Apollo Pierce

Pronouns: he/him, they/them

Apollo is a Cork-based cosplayer, voice actor and D&D nerd. They’ve been cosplaying properly since 2018, after seeing “Into the Spider-Verse” they bought their first Spider-Man cosplay and the rest is history! Since then, Apollo has cosplayed characters from Marvel, Star Wars, DC and Anime; and though he mainly purchases cosplays he plans to branch out and try his hand at making cosplays in the very near future.

Serena is a Dublin-based cosplayer who has been cosplaying since 2016. She has made costumes from both comic and gaming series, including Marvel’s Domino and Overwatch’s Mercy. Her main interest is in prop making and adding electronics to her costumes. Other than cosplay, Serena actively staffs conventions, including directing JCon 2019 and Shurikon 2017 & 2018.

Nathan Wheeler

Nathan Wheeler

Nathan Wheeler is a Miniature Artist, Podcaster, Maker Advocate and Cosplayer. His work in cosplay has focused on body positivity and building enormous and complex suits of armour using a diverse range of materials, from electronics and leather work to complex foam and thermoplastic casting. 

Nathan endeavors to push the boundaries of Irish cosplay and build ever bigger, more detailed and challenging builds while also advocating for the community both in the media and through his podcast, The Irish Makers Podcast! It is important to Nathan to encourage young people starting up and ensure people activate their inner maker!

Kat Dodd started cosplaying before they even knew the term cosplay, and segued that into an interest in costume design. Kat sews by hand, and is very handy with a hot glue gun, duct tape, and positive thoughts (but alas has no supply of pixie dust). When not cosplaying, Kat attempts to turn words into worlds.
